How the outline follows your reference
The goal is to keep the features that make the image recognisable while reducing continuous shading to lines. Compare the result with the original before choosing your final settings.
Trace subject contours and internal detail
The local line-drawing model predicts dark strokes on white paper. It uses the image around each feature, rather than turning every tonal band into a closed shape. Eyes, lips, hair and clothing can remain separate details in the resulting drawing.
Choose how much detail to keep
Start with the default settings. Raise detail sensitivity when a faint contour is missing, or lower it when paper grain and shading create too much texture. Line weight widens the surviving strokes. Remove isolated specks removes only small disconnected marks; it does not merge neighbouring areas.
Compare before printing
The original and outline use the same paper layout. Slide the divider over a feature and zoom in to judge how closely the trace follows it. Automatic tracing can omit faint edges or retain unwanted texture, so no setting guarantees a perfect hand-drawn contour on every source.
Contour resolution and print resolution
Trace resolution controls the image size used by the model: up to 768, 1024 or 1536 pixels on the long edge. Higher settings take longer and use more memory. PNG output at 300 or 600 dpi places that trace on the chosen paper; it does not create new contour detail. A4 at 300 dpi is 2480 by 3508 pixels.
Your picture stays on this device
The first trace downloads the drawing model and its browser runtime. The image itself is decoded and processed locally in a background worker, so the page remains usable during tracing. Changing paper or line settings reuses the existing contour map.

The geometry
What is a coloring page generator?
It converts a photo or drawing into printable line art. This generator uses a local line-drawing model to trace contours and internal details.
Are all the shapes closed?
No. The trace follows visible contours, including open strokes. It does not manufacture closed regions or guarantee that every area can be flood-filled.
Does it work on portraits?
Yes. Compare the eyes, nose, lips and hair with the original. Sharp references help; faint boundaries and heavy shading can still be difficult to trace.
Using it
Does the outline change for children or adults?
No. There are no age presets. Every reference uses the same tracing method, with controls for detail and line weight.
How do I reduce tiny lines?
Lower detail sensitivity to suppress faint texture. Raise Remove isolated specks slightly to remove small disconnected marks. Check Compare so you can see whether a useful feature was lost.
What does line weight do?
It widens the existing strokes. Use Fine first to inspect detail, then increase weight if you want a heavier printed outline.
Which resolution should I choose?
High is the default. Standard is faster and uses less memory. Maximum traces at up to 1536 pixels on the long edge and takes longer. Smaller source images are not enlarged before tracing.
What does ink coverage mean?
It estimates how much of the traced image is occupied by ink, including partially dark edge pixels. It is not a count of closed shapes.
Export and print
Can I get a vector file?
The outputs are raster PNG and a PDF containing the raster trace. Vector cutting paths require a separate vectorising step.
Can I print directly?
Yes. Print opens just the prepared sheet at the selected physical paper size. You can also download a PDF.
Does 600 dpi add more detail?
It creates a larger printable sheet from the same trace. Change Trace resolution to run the model with more source pixels; changing export DPI alone does not add contours.
Can I add a title or border?
Yes, under Title & border. The title has reserved space above the image on standard paper sizes.

How does this differ from paint by number?
This tool gives you lines to colour freely. The paint by number generator creates numbered colour regions with a palette.

Does my photograph get uploaded?
No. The model and browser runtime download to your device; your image is processed locally.
What if tracing fails?
Choose Standard resolution and retry. The engine needs WebAssembly support and enough free memory. Cancel stops the active trace, and Retry starts again.
