Grid Maker Pro is a drafting table in the browser — 82 composition and drawing overlays, full control over every line, and exports up to 600 DPI. No signup, no watermarks, no metered usage, and your reference images never leave your device.

Three things carry the whole tool: the grid engine, the catalogue, and the privacy architecture. The plates below take each one apart.

Plate 01 The grid engine

Fully customizable grids

Rows, columns, line weight, line color, and opacity — every parameter of the grid is yours to set, and every change previews on the image in real time. Match the 8×8 workhorse you learned with, or build the uneven custom division a particular subject actually needs.

  • Any division — from a 2×2 gesture check to fine architectural lattices, with independent row and column counts.
  • Line control — hairline to bold, any color, 10–100% opacity, so the grid reads against any reference.
  • Coordinate labels — optional A1 / B2 / C3 lettering for classical square-by-square transfer.
  • Stacking — run several overlays at once; each keeps its own scale, rotation, position, and styling.

The 82-overlay composition catalogue

Eleven categories cover the full span of the discipline: basic drawing grids, artist guides (Loomis, Reilly, Asaro), classical composition armatures, dynamic symmetry root rectangles, perspective from 1-point to anamorphic, sacred geometry from the Flower of Life to the Platonic solids, typography and baseline grids, design templates, and architecture systems including Le Corbusier's Modulor.

Six specimens from the drawer are reproduced here at reduced scale. The full set lives in the grid library, and the catalogue data itself is public at /api/overlays.json under CC BY 4.0.

Plate 03 The privacy architecture

Private by architecture, not by policy

Your reference images never leave your device — and not because a policy says so, but because there is no server to send them to. Overlay rendering, image adjustment, drawing, and export all happen locally in your browser. A promise written in the architecture cannot be quietly revised later.

  • No uploads — there is no server-side image processing of any kind.
  • No account — nothing to sign up for, so there is nothing to profile.
  • Local persistence — autosave, presets, and recent images live in your browser's own storage.
  • Verifiable — open your network tab while you work; the method is described on the methodology page.
